Keep your hands offa me! Don't screw with me! This is not the end of me! I damn well won't end it all here! Do you hear me? I am not dying on this spot! I never chose to be born into this insane world, and I won't fade away without anyone knowing about me! Without being needed by anyone! Without being hated by anyone! I'll make them learn! Give them something to worry about! I'll screw up their best laid plans! I'll claw my way into this world and leave a mark that will never fade! A mark to prove I existed! I'm not AR-6. I'm Sechs!

—Sechs, Battle Angel Alita: Last Order

Sechs (ゼクス Zekusu?) (German for "six") is one of the TUNED AR Series 2 combat androids. Formerly designated as AR-6 and known in Japan as GR-6, he was created by the Ground Investigation Bureau (G.I.B.) to replace Alita as a TUNED agent. After the collapse of the G.I.B., AR-6 went on to challenge and kill all of his "sisters" save for Elf and Zwölf in an attempt to establish his own identity, changing his name to Sechs.

Unlike his sister unit AR-2, he is noteworthy in that he does not wish to replace Alita, but believes that in defeating her he earns the right to exist as himself. Although originally assigned female, Sechs currently inhabits a male body and has a masculine personality. He has expressed some disdain for his previous TUNED body. Sechs' rivalry with Alita was largely sidelined during the Tenth Zenith of Things Tournament, during which he developed a new rivalry with Zekka. After his defeat by Zekka in the tournament, Sechs was instrumental in restoring order to Robo-Asyl. He would go on to join the Stellar Nursery Society.

Appearance[]

Sechs has black, spiky hair and is missing his right eye, which was lost before his fight against AR-4. Like the other members of the TUNED AR Series 2, his number, 6, is on his forehead and he has metallic eye black under both eyes. He first used the TUNED body, based on Alita, but transitioned upon getting the Fizziroy Body, giving him a more masculine body and making him markedly taller.

He is the only surviving member of the AR Series who still wore a semblance of the original TUNED outfit and equipment, albeit in adapted form. This includes fingerless gloves, the body armor, black body suit, knee pads, and boots. He discarded the belt and holster components of the armor, going with only the Solenoid Quench Gun and the Titan Blade as weapons. Like Alita, Sechs also began wearing a cloak to protect himself from the wind and sand of the Badlands. The armor first reflected the TUNED body that Sechs originally used, then was modified after he acquired the Fizziroy Body and transitioned.

After the TUNED body was heavily damaged by Alita, Sechs had to use the interactive interface temporarily as a primary body. It was customized by Elf and Zwölf to be similar in appearance to his TUNED body and able to function independently. Later it was connected to the Fizziroy Body via a cable and normally is kept perched on Sechs' shoulder. An illustration by Yukito Kishiro for the 2003 Ultra Jump calendar depicts Sechs as having dark brown hair with a metallic silver patch covering his right eye and a tan colored body, with the adapted interface body also sporting tan colored boots and straps across its body.[1]

Personality[]

Sechs has a highly aggressive personality and greatly enjoys fighting. Following the fall of the Ground Investigation Bureau, Sechs began developing his own personality like the other surviving TUNED AR Series 2 androids. This is possibly derived from the TUNED AR Series 2's original programming, which in turn was based on the destructive and nihilistic personality that Alita had developed during the decade that she spent as a TUNED agent. Following his defeat by Alita he began to question his own reason for existence, which has led him to ask Zazie and Zekka what their definition of a true warrior is. Due to his lack of general interactions with others, Sechs can often get confused by several common sayings and find himself in awkward situations asking for an explanation; this often leads to others around him bursting into hysterical fits of laughter (much to his confusion and anger.) Even though Sechs was primarily known to focus on becoming a powerful warrior and not give much attention to his teammates or others around him, he did have a caring side as he advised Alita to sit out and leave the fighting of Round 1 to himself and their "sisters" when he saw her suffering from mental anguish. This would also be highlighted as Sechs would later prevent a woman from committing suicide and also go on to serve as a guardian for the Steller Nursery Society after completion of the Z.O.T.T.

Over the course of the Z.O.T.T, Sechs has demonstrated that he is a capable second in command of the Space Angels when Alita is not available, and has become quite analytical in finding weaknesses and openings that him or his teammates can take advantage of. Although being initially assigned female, Sechs transitioned with the acquisition of the Fizziroy Body, which is anatomically male.

Relationships[]

Alita[]

Sechs assesses Alita's skill and power admirably

Due to being a copy of Alita, Sechs began to believe that he had to defeat her in order to fully claim his right to exist. During the year that Alita was on Tiphares and being rebuilt by Desty Nova, Sechs hunted down the surviving TUNED AR Series 2 and defeated them in battle, save for Elf and Zwölf. After being taken to Tiphares by Nova II the first thing he did was challenge Alita in a losing effort. Just prior to the preliminaries, he told Alita that they still had unfinished business which they would settle after the Z.O.T.T; however, they would end up forming a rivalry of sorts and Sechs has appeared to have let go of his prior animosity towards her.

Elf and Zwölf[]

Elf and Zwölf are the only surviving TUNED AR Series 2 androids besides Sechs. He hunted them down but they were able to defeat him by teaming up and taking his right arm with their mono-molecular wire. Since then, Sechs has reconciled with them and focused instead on his rivalry with Alita. While he now gets along with them fairly well, he generally does not relate with the more feminine personalities that they have developed and can get aggravated by their antics.

Zazie[]

Sechs met Zazie on Levithan I when she and Queen Limeira recovered König, who unbeknownst to them had been stolen by Giraud. He accompanied Zazie and Alita when they entered the Combat Chamber to rescue the boy, during which he asked Zazie what her definition of a true warrior was. It is believed that he respects her as a fellow combatant and warrior, even trying to persuade her to join them in the Z.O.T.T.

Yani[]

While it was not confirmed, it is implied that Sechs initially met Yani when given his first Fizziroy body prior to the start of the Z.O.T.T. He was surprised when the cybertech arrived during the tournament and offered to fix his damaged body into the Super-Fizziroy.

Zekka[]

Zekka, who uses a prototype version of the Fizziroy Body[2], was impressed by how Sechs handled it during the Z.O.T.T and was inspired to see him in person. Sechs quickly sensed how powerful Zekka was and asked him what his definition of a true warrior was. Sechs soon saw Zekka as a rival and the two would combat each other exclusively during the finals of the Z.O.T.T.

Abilities[]

Sechster Angriff: Sechs' own fighting style using Panzer Kunst as a basis, which readily makes use of available weapons and prominently features the Titan Blade.

  • Implosion Fist: Utilizing the unique capabilities of his second Fizziroy Body, which he dubbed the Super Fizziroy Body, Sechs is able to compress and expand parts of his body. The most commonly featured expression of this power is the Implosion Fist, wherein Sechs extends his arm rapidly, propelling his fist at his target at supersonic speeds. The most recent version of this technique involved the rapid expansion and compression of Sechs' entire body prior in preparation for firing the arm, giving it extra power.
SechsPlasmaFlares

  • Plasma manipulation: In addition to the expansion punch, Sechs has developed the ability to produce and manipulate plasma in the Super Fizziroy Body. This was first seen when he threw a plasma ball at Zekka, but was more prominently featured in his fight against Warmen 609.
  • Elite Plasma Boost: Sechs uses plasma to accelerate himself at a speed fast enough to outrun 100 mm ramjet A.P.F.S. bullets.
  • Sechs Special Plasma Decoys: Decoy copies of Sechs composed of plasma that function as flares to confuse an electronic targeting system. It can be countered with an electromagnetic pulse attack.
  • Sechster Angriff Boost: A version of the Sechster Angriff used against Zekka in Phase 89. Sechs uses the Titan Blade and spins around at a high speed in midair with the blade also spinning around him and uses plasma to give it an extra boost. The rotation and plasma turn Sechs and the blade into a moving fireball impossible to predict or stop.

Panzer Kunst: As a TUNED AR Series 2 android, Sechs was programmed with all of the Panzer Kunst techniques that Alita had recalled in her TUNED career, in addition to ten years' worth of combat data. Among the surviving AR units Sechs is the only one to still utilise Panzer Kunst to some degree as Elf and Zwölf have more or less abandoned it.

  • Hertza Haeon: A high frequency vibration that damages the target's internal organs. Sechs has largely used the technique only when controlling the interactive interface due to its tiny size.

Ventriloquism: It is shown that Sechs is good at mimicking voices, as he was able to perfectly imitate the voice of Springfoot Jack and neutralized Lily because of it during Round 2 of the Z.O.T.T.

Equipment[]

Firearms: Sechs has a high degree of familiarity with firearms that he may have learned as a result of using the Solenoid Quench Gun and other TUNED weapons, as well as being programmed with Alita's battle data.

SechsSQG

Sechs preparing the Solenoid Quench Gun built into his original TUNED Body in Phase 5

  • Solenoid Quench Gun: The right arm of Sechs' modified Tuned body, as well as the first Fizziroy Body, was capable of transforming into a .22 caliber super-conducting phase transition gun, also called a "Solenoid Quench Gun", similar to, but smaller than the one used against Den by Alita. The first version of this gun had a very long transformation time from arm to gun and back again, making it difficult to use effectively against most opponents. The second version was substantially faster, as well as capable of repeat fire. Both guns were very powerful, and easily capable of causing massive levels of destruction with a single shot. When Sechs upgraded to his second Fizziroy Body, he abandoned the Solenoid Quench Gun on Yani's recommendation.
  • Smith & Wesson Model 500: Used by Springfoot Jack in Round 2 of the ZOTT to play a rigged game of Russian roulette with a hypnotised Elf and Zwölf. Sechs afterwards picked it up and fired the remaining rounds at his head to prove the ruse, sustaining no damage.

In the Quarterfinals, Sechs took out three members of the Wild Guns by turning their firearms against them.

Titan Blade: The Titan Blade was inspired by Alita's Damascus Blade and features heavily in Sechster Angriff. It was Sechs' principal weapon.

Cyborg bodies: Sechs has used a variety of bodies during his short, but eventful life.

  • TUNED body: As a part of the AR-series, Sechs' had a standard TUNED body that was modeled after Alita's own. This body was later modified to accommodate the Solenoid Quench Gun in place of the right arm. It was heavily damaged in battle with Alita and was eventually replaced.
  • Interactive interface: Originally developed by Russell for Alita's GIB operator Lou Collins, the interactive interface was discarded after Lou rebelled. It was found by Elf and Zwölf, who placed Sechs' brain bio-chip into it as his TUNED body had been nearly destroyed in combat with Alita. Despite the interface's tiny size Sechs can fight in it, even using the Hertza Haeon. It was later connected to both Fizziroy Bodies via a cable to function as a backup.

The first was ordered through Martin Tsang to use in the Tenth Zenith of Things Tournament. The precise specifications of this body are unknown, except that it was a substantially taller male body made of the "newest polytene materials" and was by Sechs' reckoning a fair match for Alita's own Imaginos Body. This body proved to be very durable even in the face of the severe beating that Sechs took from Qu Tsang shortly after defeating Getz and Niz in Round 1, although the right arm was lost in the same match.

Sechs was then upgraded to the latest version of the Fizziroy, which he called the "Super Fizziroy," by the cybertechnician Yani, the inventor of the Fizziroy. The implosion process nearly failed, but Derossi was able to trigger it just in time for Sechs to participate in Round 2.

Although similar to Sechs' original Fizziroy Body, the new body omitted the Solenoid Quench Gun on Yani's recommendation. After meeting Zekka, Sechs learned how to manipulate the internal pressure of the polythene solution circulating through the body. This enabled him to develop the Implosion Punch as well as to later take one of Zekka's attacks and absorb the energy. The second body was destroyed during the ZOTT Finals by Zekka.

After the ZOTT, Sechs was back to using the interactive interface, now modified to function as a tiny Fizziroy body. Approximately three years after the events of Last Order, Sech's has a cameo in Mars Chronicle showing that he has a new body. Due to its similar appearance to the prior ones Sechs used, it is presumed to be another Fizziroy body.

History[]

Sechs was one of a dozen TUNED AR Series 2 androids, which were based on the design of Alita's body as well as her Panzer Kunst knowledge and combat data gathered from the decade that she spent as a TUNED agent. Following the destruction of the Heng, Sechs, then known as AR-6, was assigned to anti-Barjack operations.

After the fall of the GIB, Sechs spent a period of time looking for his reason for being; he would settle on finding his purpose in combat and went on to challenge the surviving AR Series androids. During the early stages of his search, Sechs obtained Alita's mobile TUNED unit and lost his right eye to one of the other AR units. While tracking down AR-4, Sechs caught it trying to escape with Figure Four. Sechs would manage to kill AR-4 by slicing both its arms off and stabbing it through the head with the Titan Blade; as Figure Four began crying and mourning its death, Sechs stated it was merely a replica and mocked the man for thinking it was the actual Alita. Sechs expressed surprise when Figure Four managed to land a few blows on him; upset that a human was able to strike it repeatedly, Sechs gleefully decided to kill him as well and sliced off Figure's right arm. However, before he could land the killing blow, Sechs' Titan Blade was struck by lightning and as he was distracted, Figure managed to escape with AR-4's body.[3] Sechs would soon abandon the Mobile unit, going on and hunting down the remaining AR units. When he found the last two, Elf and Zwölf, he was caught off guard by the two working together and would get his own right arm sliced off due to their use of mono-molecular wire.[4] This defeat convinced Sechs to allow them to live, as he has not expressed a desire to kill them since. Sechs subsequently obtained a replacement arm that could transform into a smaller version of the Solenoid Quench Gun.

Plot[]

Sechs defeated

Sechs' original body is destroyed by Alita

Tiphares Arc[]

After fighting against all the remaining AR units, Sechs was contacted by Nova II, learning that Alita was in Tiphares. Having harbored a desire to fight against the woman he was modeled after, Sechs agreed to go with Nova along with Elf and Zwölf, who were acting as Nova's bodyguards. Here they found Alita in the Tiphares theatre; Sechs took advantage of the opportunity to ambush her and goad Alita into fighting her. He manages to get the upper hand and slices off Alita's left arm, but gets angered when Elf and Zwölf interfere; he fires a round from the Solenoid Quench Gun but is surprised when it misses. After they fight some more, he is struck with a Hertza Haeon strike from Alita; this paralyzes Sechs and causes his original body to explode.[5] He spends the trip to the MIB core as a dismembered head and torso and witnesses Alita's fight against Sachumodo; Sechs yells at Alita to fight, knowing that she is easily strong enough to defeat the colossus. He is later plugged into the interactive interface body by Elf and Zwölf as a temporary body; he is incensed by how they (and Alita) find it amusing and laugh at him. Sechs becomes a bit more receptive of the new body after Alita tells him that it would be good practice in fighting against much larger opponents.

Ketheres Arc[]

Upon arriving in Ketheres, Sechs scouts the landing area with Alita to check for traps or threats; he remains in hiding and witnesses Aga Mbadi introduce himself to Nova and the others. Noticing the TR-55 units containing Elf and Zwölf's brain bio chips floating off their shoulders, Sechs realizes they have been hacked and orders Alita and Nova to get away; he throws a knife at Mbadi but is frozen in place due to the latter hacking him too. Sechs is struck by the knife and frozen in a polymer cube with them before getting ejected into space.[6]

Leviathan I Arc[]

After Alita forms an alliance with Ping Wu to enter the Zenith of Things Tournament, Sechs witnessed Alita's fight against the warrior Zazie. Impressed by her abilities, he joins them during a training exercise and asks Zazie for her views on what it means to be a warrior; he watches in glee as both Alita and Zazie dispatch Colonel Payne, a former instructor that tormented Zazie in the past (& later Alita).[7] Due to his small size, Sechs is told to stay behind and provide commentary to Combat TV reporter Jack Gerambo; he tells the reporter and the audience how powerful Alita is and equally impressed by the power demonstrated by Alita and Zazie's opponents in the Chamber. Sechs would jump at the chance at fighting powerful opponents and would go on to join Alita's Z.O.T.T team as a member of the Space Angels; he tries to convince Zazie to join their team and is disappointed when she seems to decline the offer.

Guntroll Arc[]

Before the preliminaries, Sechs upgraded to a new cyborg body dubbed the Fizziroy that was almost an exact replica of his modified TUNED body; despite acquiring a body that was eligible for the competition, he decided to keep the Interactive Interface body hooked up to act as a separate unit jacked into the back of his neck. During this time, Sechs also acquired an improved version of his Titan Blade. He, along with Elf & Zwölf regrouped with Ping Wu and Alita, telling the latter they will resume their feud after the completion of the Z.O.T.T. He would easily lead the way during the preliminary round, dispatching a number of other teams and robot drones sent against them and exclaimed how he was excited for the contest to begin; despite this, he also took note of how effortlessly Alita was dispatching drones, remarking how he could have ever lost to her.

Just prior to their first round matchup, Sechs came through their base and was surprised to see a section of wall suddenly blasted away; looking inside, he saw Alita trembling and on the verge of crying. Sechs decided to approach Alita and, even though he did not understand the reasons for her outburst, comforted her and told Alita to not worry about fighting in the first round; Elf, Zwölf and himself will handle it while she deals with whatever anguish that she's going through. Sechs brushes off his 'sisters' inquiry about Alita and states that for now, they will be the ones fighting. During their first round, Sechs is able to take command of Elf & Zwölf and devises a plan on how to defeat the first two members of the Guntroll: Getz and Koen. Eventually, he is able to skewer the two opponents with his Titan Blade. Just as he prepares to finish them off, the next two members Niz & Qu Tsang arrive to confront them. While Qu Tsang squares off against his sister units, Sechs focuses on Niz. Despite holding his own, Sechs is overpowered and suplexed into the ground by Niz after getting tied up with mooring cables. As he begins to drift into unconsciousness, Sechs encounters an apparition of both Alita and Zazie, lamenting how he remains confused over what it means to be a true warrior.

Sechs begins to stir and remains defiant to Niz proclaiming that he has lost the fight. While he puts on a show of bravado, he coordinates with the interactive interface which begins cutting some of the cables. As Niz prepares to throw him into the sun, Sechs is able to wrap some of the cables around Niz's neck and as they reach the apex, he deploys the Solenoid Quench Gun. Yelling at his opponent to go to hell, Sechs opens fire and blows apart Niz's arms while also damaging his suit and piercing his chest. Despite this victory and knocking him out of the match, the blast destroyed Sechs' right arm and the Solenoid Quench Gun, leaving him weakened.[8] He notices amidst the debris Qu Tsang standing before him. He grabs the Titan Blade and tries to slice her apart, but Qu Tsang avoids the blow and quickly slaps him repeatedly in several key pressure points, rendering him unable to continue.[9]

Starship Cult Arc[]

After the Space Angels advance to the second round, Sechs angrily confronts Deckman 100 when it states his body is too different than his teammates to be repaired. Faced with possibly having to bow out, Sechs notices the two technicians who worked on his original Fizziroy body arrive. The two, named Yani and Derossi, offer to upgrade it in exchange for granting them membership to the commonwealth if the Angels win.[10] Shortly before the start of the second round match, Sechs' body was prepared for the implosion process to complete it; however, it initially failed and nearly killed Yani and Derossi. Fortunately, the process was completed in time for Sechs to compete and the latter quickly rejoined the tournament match in progress, confronting Springfoot Jack.

Seeing what happened to Elf, Sechs emptied the remaining rounds into his head and laughed how hollow point bullets would not work on him. Even though he deduced that Jack had been a former member of the Steller Nursery Society, Sechs quickly grew disinterested in the clown and rushed him with the Titan Blade; Sechs was caught off guard by Jack using a hypnotized Lily to deflect the blow and got blinded by Jack shooting him in the face. As he retreated to clear his vision, Sechs noticed Jack throwing a hypnotized Zwölf at him as a boomerang and knocked her into the ground. He cleared his vision just as Jack leapt towards him intending to attack with Lily; thinking quickly, Sechs threw his voice to imitate Jack and neutralized Lily by ordering her to transform into flan. He finished his attack by kicking the Titan Blade through Jack's head and then bisecting him vertically.[11]

Impatiently waiting for the next member to come out, Sechs is puzzled when a large group of women swarmed the field and gathered at a pyramid that materialized in front of him. Getting excited at who might be coming to face him, Sechs was disappointed by the appearance and behavior of Whophon. Hearing the maniacal youth order the gathered women to commit suicide, Sechs was able to intervene and save one of them named Misha; he asked why she wanted to kill herself and was surprised when she frantically tried to continue her efforts. Sechs ended up having to knock her out and angrily confronted Whophon, stating he was the one who needed to die.[12] He decides to rush Whophon but is caught in a hypnotic attack where he appears to not get any closer to the pyramid; soon, his shadow seems to inexplicably come to life and taunt Sechs for being inferior to Alita. Growling at the apparition, Sechs stabs it in the head but in actuality severs his spinal cord. As Whophon uses his abilities to cause random spectators to start bursting into flames, Sechs becomes horrified when steam begins to emit out of his mouth and ears.

Wracked by indecision on whether he should attack now or try and strategize before he explodes, Sechs manages to find Whophon's actual location due to his mirrored left hand; he launches a long range punch that spears through Whophon's chest and when retracted, causes the man's body to explode. Despite the victory, Sechs and the audience are surprised when it is revealed the match is still going; due to her survival in the mass suicide, Misha was automatically added to the Starship's roster as an active combatant. Sechs briefly toys with the idea of killing her, but ultimately declines and leaves as the Space Angels win, advancing to the quarterfinals.[13]

Due to Elf & Zwölf getting defeated by Springfoot Jack (& refusing to participate further in the tournament) along with Alita still missing in action, Sechs was forced to fight alone against the Wild Guns, which he managed to win single-handedly and causes the Space Angels to qualify for the semifinals. He went on to confront Aga Mbadi after an attack on the Space Angel's headquarters that nearly resulted in the death of Ping Wu, and threatened to "run amok" when surrounded by New Order troops.

This incident culminated in Sechs' first encounter with Zekka, leading into a highly destructive thumb-wrestling match at supersonic speeds. Although unable to beat Zekka, Sechs did manage to anger his opponent by vandalizing his bike with his interactive interface body while the other's attention as focused on him.

Warmen 609 Arc[]

As the semifinals of Block A begin, Sechs is slightly miffed that Alita has not yet returned, but nonetheless once again enters the arena to confront the Jovian seeded team Warmen 609. A large sphere lands in the arena and unfolds into the war machine's first form known as the Ubernaught. As it fires polymer cubes towards him, Sechs manages to evade them but quickly finds himself trapped within a pyramid comprised of the cubes; thinking quickly, Sechs fires a supersonic punch that launches him into the air and avoids a volley of missiles. As another volley rains towards him, Sechs quickly jumps from missile to missile causing several to combust; he then surfs on one and leads the rest back towards the Ubernaught before jumping off to avoid the explosion. As the audience notice that the Ubernaught has grown visibly bigger, Sechs is caught off guard by the arrival of a massive tornado generated by the Ubernaught and engulfed within it.[14]

Within seconds, Sechs manages to absorb the energy created and uses the Implosion Fist to decimate the Ubernaught; while he grins in satisfaction on his victory, he takes umbrage when Jack Gerambo refers to the attack by a less impressive sounding name. Sechs watches in astonishment when the remains of the Ubernaught reform into the second form of Warmen 609, Voyna. He utilizes plasma decoys to throw off the targeting system but is caught within an EMP net that temporarily immobilizes him. Before it can destroy him, Voyna is shot several times with Berserker and Collapser rounds by Zazie, who makes the save and helps Sechs back to his feet.[15]

Trivia[]

  • It remains unknown when Sechs lost his right eye; it is presumed that if he went numerically in order (with AR-2 already being destroyed by Alita and AR-11 & 12 being the last two units encountered by him), either AR-3 or AR-4 were responsible for the injury.
